Okanagan Landing Steamships
Paddle Wheel Park was the site of CPR ship building the beginning of the steamship era for Lake Okanagan. The first Stern Wheel Steamships were called the Aberdeen, Okanagan, and Sicamous connecting us to the Southern Okanagan lake points in Penticton the landing of the Kettle Valley Railway. The last passengers to use stern wheeler ships was in 1936 and the ships were than retired from there jobs as transportation vehicles. On April 8, 1949 The Okanagan Landing Community Association began under the societies act and the purpose was to promote social, recreational, educational and cultural activities amongst the members. From 1949 until 1971 meetings were held at the United Church Hall Okanagan Landing Road. Paddle Wheel Park became the Community Hall to this day funded by government grants and volunteer labor. The Regatta event had started in 1910 and continues to this day.
