Okanagan Education Schools

The influx of population brought families that needed to educate their children thus the beginning of the education system in Vernon. First there were private schools that freely invited and permitted students education and promise of a good British education. The first school was built in 1893 by E. Crowell for five thousand dollars it later became Clarence Fulton School. The original building is still standing and used by the Science Centre. This building is known to be the oldest surviving brick school house in British Columbia.

Vernon school houses built in 1884, by Agnes McDonald only lasted one year and burnt down. The next school was built by E.J. Morand this school building was used to full capacity teaching children, preaching to locals, and socializing for locals. The next school was built in 1893 by T. E. Crowell for $5087.00 at that time was part of Coldstream Ranch and some the school still standing today and is called Clarence Fulton.
