Theodore Kruger 1878
Theodore Kruger was hired by the Hudson Bay Company and sent to work at the Osoyoos Hudson Bay Post. One year later Osoyoos HBC was sold to Barrington Price. Kruger moved to Kamloops Hudson Bay Company Post. Kruger did not stop there he purchased the Osoyoos Post from Barrington Price and ran the post privately. Kruger married a nurse named Chrestenza who helped run the post and dispensed medicine to common ailments. In 1878 Kruger bravely helped a burning customs house by going in and salvaging the company safe that weighed 1200 lbs. and threw it away from the fire. Kruger continued to run his post until he was appointed Customs officer in 1889 until his death in 1899.
