In September 1867 Luc Girouard pre-empted 160 acres of land which is now within Vernon city limits. Luc Girouard started the first Vernon Post Office. His feeble attempt ended when sorting the mail on the floor became too hard when he ran out of floor space. Girouard resigned from Post Master.
