The City of Salmon Arm

The City of Salmon Arm is located in the southern interior of British Columbia on the southwest shoreline of the Shuswap Lake. There are 16,800 residents and is the largest urban centre in the district. Salmon Arm is the commercial, cultural and administrative hub for an additional 30,000 residents of the Shuswap Lake Region. The land area takes in 75 kilometers squared, large municipality populated mostly around Trans Canada Highway and Salmon Arm downtown core.

Salmon Arm is constantly diversifying. Housing market near Shuswap Lake is booming and the sources of employment are retail, construction, professional services, health care, starter businesses a constant source of employment. This area is a business friendly environment with wood processing, high tech, manufacturing, tourism and agri-business. The climbing influx of construction dictates the demand for new housing and floor space for commercial, industrial and institutional uses.

Salmon Arm has a proposed growth rate of 2% annually over the next four years. Salmon Arm has two standing committee's that the surrounding population including those living around Shuswap Lake is urged to become a part of. The Airport Committee consists of one councilor, one regional district board member, the airport Manager, three airport users and one city staff liaison. This group is responsible for implementing policies, operational, maintenance, capital improvements and development issues pertaining to Salmon Arm airport issues. The Development and Planning Services committee consists of the city of Salmon Arm council members to process land use applications.
